Holding on to the dream

I've observed my life and how it's been to me.
To me and most, it would seem complete.
I've achieved my goals and seen my destiny.
My happiness is all too clear to see.

There are times when I feel cold even in the warmest tones
That I then realize I am all alone.
Suddenly there's this hope, that somehow, somewhere, someway
Someone's feeling the same thing and it fades.

I shrug it off, and sometimes the coldness dies,
And I can then carry on with my life.
For it can't be all it seems. For if it was, who could stand the pain?
It would tear deeply in the heart. It could drive the mind insane.

I fight it all I can, and I feel I win sometimes.
But, there's times it gives no signs and I'm blind.
I get so lonely, and, as crazy as it seems,
I keep on holding on to the dream.

It's my philosophy that this pain is not in vain.
I know someone out there must feel the same.
She's has become so real that this feeling can't be ignored.
Even though my worlds happy, why must I need more?

Now... Now, I take things so easy, and I take the beaten path,
But still the void cannot be surpassed.
When I'm feeling kind of sad, I reach within my songs
And sing the yearning I've felt for so long.

And, I get so lonely, yet, somehow I move the stone,
And I gain my inner strength. 'Cause I know
That there's someone there for me, and she sings the songs I sing,
And we keep on holding on to the dream.
